A new trend from the USA: yoga with goats. Have you never heard of it? Then you should definitely find out more. Whether you're young or old, new to yoga or a seasoned yoga enthusiast – practicing asanas with goats has a very special effect on the human body. You'll find all the important information about the yoga trend with animals in this article. Fast, animal-like, and efficient.

    What is goat yoga?

The new trend, goat yoga, is impressive. Attention yoga fans! If you want a particularly intense session, take the time to spread out your yoga mat on a meadow with a goat and enjoy the time in the sun. The focus of this relaxation technique is to combine various positive aspects:

    • the benevolent charisma of goats, which has an effect on people
    • the positive effects of yoga on holistic health
    • the fresh air that supplies the body with plenty of oxygen

Anyone who thinks they have to prove themselves on the yoga mat with goats is mistaken. This isn't about showing off or performing all the yoga poses perfectly. Rather, the focus is on enjoying the calming aura of the little goats, concentrating on their bodies, and letting go. Furthermore, the entire body can heal and regenerate during the entire yoga class in the pasture.

Goat yoga originated in the US state of Oregon. American Lainey Morse came up with the idea of incorporating these four-legged animals into her fitness routine. Now, goat yoga is enjoying increasing popularity.

How are these yoga sessions with goats structured?

To get a good insight into Goat Yoga, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the program. Of course, this always depends on the specific organizer.

The yoga exercises always take center stage. Alongside these, the animals and the beautiful landscape have a positive effect on the body, mind, and soul.

A class usually begins with the yoginis getting to know the goats. This way, they get a first impression and can more easily overcome any fears. For outdoor yoga, you should wear appropriate clothing that can, ideally, get dirty. This way, petting, feeding, and grooming the animals is no problem.

After the initial introduction, everyone goes to their mat and the class begins. Depending on the provider, you can choose between different yoga styles. Slower asanas from Yin Yoga are often practiced, as these further intensify relaxation. Those who prefer can, of course, also try Vinyasa or Ashtanga Yoga. At the end, there's usually a short relaxation session or meditation to bring the class to a good close. For this, you should bring a comfortable cushion that's also suitable for outdoor use.

Once the class is over, participants can cuddle, pet, or even feed the animals again—this must be discussed with the farm owner. Many prohibit this, as otherwise the animals will eat the wrong food, increasing the risk of health consequences.

Where can you do goat yoga?

Because the trend is still relatively new, it's not possible to experience yoga with goats everywhere. However, the number of opportunities is growing within Europe, so you don't have to fly to the US to benefit from it.

According to Instagram, there are already several smaller providers in Ireland, the UK, and Spain. Before you plan your trip, you should examine the various farms carefully – this way you're sure to find the right one. There are also a few farms in Germany that offer these experiences. Be sure to check them out online.
